The Software Development cycle!

1. Programmer produces code he believes is bug-free.

2. Product is tested. 20 bugs are found.

3. Programmer fixes 10 of the bugs and explains to the testing department that the other 10 aren’t really bugs.

4. Testing department finds that five of the fixes didn’t work and discovers 15 new bugs.

5. Repeat three times steps 3 and 4.

6. Due to marketing pressure and an extremely premature product announcement based on overly-optimistic programming schedule, the product is released.

7. Users find 137 new bugs.

8. Original programmer, having cashed his royalty check, is nowhere to be found.

9. Newly-assembled programming team fixes almost all of the 137 bugs, but introduce 456 new ones.

10. Original programmer sends underpaid testing department a postcard from Fiji. Entire testing department quits.

11. Company is bought in a hostile takeover by competitor using profits from their latest release, which had 783 bugs.

12. New CEO is brought in by board of directors. He hires a programmer to redo program from scratch.

13. Programmer produces code he believes is bug-free.

And the cycle continues….

Ireland Beat Pakistan!!!!!!

It might be the first Cricket World Cup after consecutive four ICC Cricket world cup tournament, that I didn’t watched the opening match. It is not because I have lost interest in Cricket but my busy schedule is costing me the live show of my favorite sport.

During these days I was not really in mood to write about the happenings of Cricket world cup because without watching the live telecast how to comment on the matches? But today, when Ireland (so called minnows) crashed out Pakistan from the World Cup, I was totally stunned.

As I am a great fan of Pakistani Cricket, it is really heartbreaking news for me and all the Pakistani fans. I was waiting for the day when M. Asif and S. Akhtar joins the squad and give the life to the team, but the poor Pakistani side couldn’t make up to even second round. I used the word ‘poor’ coz this current playing team was without my favorite stars like S. Afridi, A. Razzak, S. Akhtar, etc.

Now, my hopes are for West Indies to win the final, coz Sri Lankan doesn’t have that guts to win the cup and I don’t like the Indian team (even they were beaten by Bangladesh today). Though, New Zealand and South Africa are also threatening the Australia but the world champions will remain champions for this world cup also, I guess.

On the first day of college, the Dean addressed the students, pointing out some of the rules: "The female dormitory will be out-of-bounds for all male students, and the male dormitory to the female students. Anybody caught breaking this rule will be fined $20 the first time."

He continued, "Anybody caught breaking this rule the second time will be fined $60. Being caught a third time will cost you a fine of $180. Are there any questions?"

At this point, a male student in the crowd inquired: "How much for a season pass?"

Donald Rumsfeld is giving the president his daily briefing. He concludes by saying: "Yesterday, 3 Brazilian soldiers were killed." "OH NO!" the President exclaims. "That’s terrible!" His staff sits stunned at this display of emotion, nervously watching as the President sits, head in hands. Finally, the President looks up and asks, "How many is a brazillion?"

A doctor and a lawyer were talking at a party. Their conversation was constantly interrupted by people describing their ailments and asking the doctor for free medical advice.

After an hour of this, the exasperated doctor asked the lawyer, "What do you do to stop people from asking you for legal advice when you’re out of the office?"
"I give it to them," replied the lawyer, "and then I send them a bill."
The doctor was shocked, but agreed to give it a try.

The next day, still feeling slightly guilty, the doctor prepared the bills.
When he went to place them in his mailbox, he found a bill from the lawyer.

Two young men who had just graduated from Harvard were all excited and talking effusively as they got into a taxi in downtown Boston.
After hearing them for a couple of minutes the cab driver asked, "You men Harvard graduates?"
"Yes Sir! Class of ‘94!" they answered proudly.

The cab driver extended his hand back to shake their hand, saying, "Class of ‘58."

Farewell party &/|| welcome party

Sunday, March 11 was the party day for Nepalese-MUM-IOWA guys. We were more than half-century people gathered there and the water work lake near fairfield city looked like a mini Nepal for about 6 hrs. It was a multipurpose party. Seniors welcomed us n we gave farewell to them. It was a total funny day and the weather, as expected, supported us very well.

Party started at around 2pm with the formal introduction program, we met lots of ex-mum nepalese and I was specially pleased to see them supporintg our event. I was also felt happy when I met Bipesh dai(my colleague) in the party, he is Feb 06 entry here in MUM and now working at a software company in the Jefferson cirty, Missauri. After that, there were few traditional entertaing games and one name game also. Though the day’s highlight was Antakchhari program (Men Vs. Women), but guys also enjyoed playing Football there.

My friends were specially keen on BBQ Chicken, coz we are supposed to be vegeterian in Annapurna Dinning Hall and we can’t cook anything in dorm also. Even though I am not a vegeterian but I couldn’t pick the opportunity of having lots of chicken there, because my doctor has suggested me to be carefull while taking foods coz I have having a liver problem these days. Anyway, I was enjoying the  ’Achaars’ there prepared by ‘Bhauju’ groups with totally nepali taste.

Partly lasted till 8pm, though I came back to my dorm an hour earlier due to headache, guys made a lot of entertainment by singing n dancing in Lok Dohori. I have placed picuters(only frm my cam) in my photo page. You can visit here

Attitude Problem

It is only few weeks that I have been here in USA. I do not have yet visited the big cities, I have only been to the few cities of IOWA like Cedar Rapids, Iowa city, Ottumwa and of course our Fairfield. Though I haven’t spent much time here, but this short period of time has been a very good experience for me. Initially, when I was in my own country, I used to get surprised by the technological development here, and I used to guess that the reason behind the success might be the lots of resources available there and it is also due to the support of nature and again the group of brilliant people from all around the world is targeting to work in USA. But, in these few weeks I am very much sure that the root of their success is the right ATTITUDE and we Nepalese have attitude problem.

The first and very remarkable thing I noticed here is the tradition of not discriminating people according to their job. They respect equally for the job of the Office Administrator as well as Office Assistant. Though the paying range is different (not much in % as in Nepal, I guess), but the job is equally respected. I believe that this is the root of social development, and I also believe right attitude is key concept for the development. I used to work in a very reputed government organization in my country and never saw that a peon appreciated by a boss for his good works, I also never saw an office head cleaning his office room. I believe that we have a very strong attitude problem.

Another thing that really impressed me is the proper and sensible laws, and those rules are very tastefully abided by the citizens. A car driver in a open highway stops his car after seeing a ambulance running in the road and he immediately stops and make the ambulance ease in continuing with its speed, when I saw this in the highway, I remember a poor ambulance with siren begging for a small pass in the street but none of the other drivers are ready to give it the way, coz they feel that they all are also in equal hurry, this is the common scenario in the busy Kathmandu streets. And this is the attitude problem, we Nepalese think for ourselves first then if condition favor we think about others, and devoting time for the nation is far beyond of our horizon(but, few politician pretends to do so). But for the development of a country this is, I believe, a big hindrance.

Now, I feel that I also had those problems as being a common Nepalese. But I believe that I will change myself and will try to be honest with others. So, I believe, that if our political leaders also visit these developed countries, informally, for a while and feel the tradition here then they might respect others’ feeling and lead the country by setting examples.
